Your Brain on Meditationby Michelle Rogers
Ongoing research is continuing to support what Buddhist practitioners of meditation have known for centuries. Working with Tibetan monks and supported by HH the Dalai Lama; researchers have been able to translate the mental experience of meditation into a scientific language – using gamma waves and brain synchrony.
Long-time meditation practitioners are found to have ‘incredible brain activation’ in the left prefrontal cortex of the brain .. the area associated with happiness and positive thoughts and emotions.
While in the past scientists believed that brain nerve cells were fixed and couldn’t be changed – recent investigation is showing that in fact the brain is capable of being trained and physically modified. The potential to constantly develop the brain is known as ‘neuroplasticity’ .. where meditation can be found to change the ‘circuitry’ of the mind.
How truly amazing this may be for each of us .. for the world today! Here is a review of this research by Dan Rather from YouTube.
