Quiet Mind Meditation

#1 Meditation

I first experienced meditation as a senior student about to embark on my (stressful) VCE year. That experience truly inspired me and I developed a passionate interest in meditation that has seen my practice continue for more than 20yrs. I have sought out, read and explored a variety of meditation techniques .. attended retreats and found teachers, and continued to just sit and practice. Life is better when I meditate and I believe whole-heartedly that meditation is a life skill that the world needs right now.

The years since high school also provided challenges, highs and lows .. I also leapt into an exciting and hectic corporate career, travelled a lot, moved house, renovated properties, become a mother and continued to seek the elusive work/life balance. I appreciate the stress and confusion that can be found in trying to balance it all!

Meditation is the practice of ‘stilling the mind' .. allowing the body to achieve a deep state of relaxation, and the mind to find a place of deep inner stillness, heightened awareness and focus.

People seek out meditation for many reasons .. to relax, manage stress, improve health, develop greater focus and awareness, inspire creative thinking, cope better with change and the demands of life .. and for thousands of years people across the globe have been meditating!

QUIET MIND MEDITATION

After two years of teaching meditation part-time, in 2009 I started Quiet Mind Meditation after accepting a redundancy from the cut throat world of corporate recruitment (the 'global financial crisis' was the last straw).  I started Quiet Mind believing that everyone should learn this life skill. In our classes we aim to explore some of the principal concepts that apply to all meditation, the ‘how’ and the ‘why’, and also introduce a variety of difference relaxation and meditation techniques (both classical and modern) so that participants can find the best technique for their unique lifestyle. I enjoy sharing the ‘art and science’ of meditation.

My teaching style is relaxed, practical and free of religious dogma .. a straightforward approach that aims to make meditation accessible and enjoyable. Classes are designed to allow for instruction, practice and discussion - and a few laughs along the way. We learn meditation sitting in chairs, although we explore other postures including lying on the floor and moving .. participants are free to bring a meditation cushion if they prefer to be seated on the floor.

We currently run meditation classes at a number of Bayside (Melbourne) locations:

Parkdale: Black Rock : Brighton (go to our Classes page for further information on venues and current class schedules)

You can also find me at Simply Silence, Elwood on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month for a casual group guided meditation class.

FREELANCE WRITING:
I love writing about meditation (along with doing and discussion and reading about meditation!) and have had some wonderful opportunities to write for magazine and online publications.  I am currently writing a monthly article for MySpaGuide at www.myspaguide.com.au

If you would like a meditation inspiration for your publication or online community .. please contact me at sarah@quietmind.com.au

Enjoy!
