Can’t stop yourself pulling out the credit card yet again .. for another (put in your current weakness here) .. then try mindfulness meditation!
I see the word ‘mindfulness’ come up in some many different arena’s .. but never as an antidote for too much shopping.
But I was stopped in my tracks to see the headline "How Mindfulness Can Curb Impulse Spending" on Fox Business today .. READ THE ARTICLE HERE
So shopping ..
"Often, there's some underlying dissatisfaction or sense of lack or irritation or unhappiness that they're trying to fill by buying something," says Stephan Bodian, a Zen teacher in Tucson, Ariz., and author of "Meditation for Dummies."
How does it work?
Well by practicing mindfulness meditation we have an invaluable opportunity to sit with our innermost thoughts, and truly ‘hear’ what it is we tell ourselves. This can be amazingly insightful.
Realising that many of our thoughts/actions/feelings are habitual, un-challenged, tied up with old 'stuff' and rather silly .. gives us the option of choosing NOT to react or act on them. Enlightening!
All very true .. just an interesting angle in popular media.
Mindfulness : cultivating a clear, stable and non-judgemental awareness of the present moment.
